Photoshop Tutorial: Design a Record App Icon in Photoshop

Today in this Photoshop tutorial i will show you how to design a dribble inspired record icon. This icon looks more or like the icon which i saw in dribble while i was browsing. I felt this record was clean and simple, yet beautiful. So as usual i open my Photoshop and started designing it. And i have come with an beautiful output. This record icon is very simple to design, you can create this in minutes. OK let’s move on to the tutorial.

Step-1 Open a new document with width and height of 500 pixels respectively.

Step-2 From the tools palette pick up the rounded rectangle tool, at the top of the menu tab set the radius amount to 25 pixels. Once the value is set, drawn a shape as i have draw it below.

Step-3 Now double click on this layer to bring in the layer style window, apply the following layer style effects. Here i have used DROP SHADOW, INNER SHADOW, GRADIENT OVERLAY.

Step-4 Again from the tools palette pick the elliptical tool and draw a circle as i have drawn it below. Now double click on this layer to bring in the layer style window, and apply the following layer style effects. Here i have used GRADIENT OVERLAY and STROKE effects.

Step-5 Again create a circle, but this time smaller than the previous one, again double click on this layer, once the layer style window appears, apply the following layer style effects. Here i have used DROP SHADOW and GRADIENT OVERLAY.

Step-6 Pick up the elliptical tool from the tools palette and draw another smaller circle at the center of the previous circle shape. Now apply GRADIENT OVERLAY effect.

Step-7 Again in this step create another circle shape with the colour code of # cccccc.

Step-8 For the final step pick the elliptical tool and draw small circle with the colour code # ff0000. Now double click on this layer to bring in the layer style window, then apply the following layer style effects. Here i have used INNER SHADOW, OUTER GLOW, GRADIENT OVERLAY effects.

Step-9 Once we have done with effects part, pick the type tool and type the word ‘RECORD’, let the colour of this text be # c0c0c1.

This is the final preview of the image.
